We are located on the West coast of Ireland between the beautiful mountains of Connemara and the north plains of Mayo, in an area known as Clew Bay. Here the holy mountain of Croagh Patrick, 2510ft high, towers behind the small seaside town of Westport. Out in the bay Clare Island, the home of pirate queen Granuaile, sits amongst 365 other smaller islands, some of which are also still inhabited. From the Celts to the Great Irish Famine, history has left its mark in the rural communities here and many traditional crafts, buildings and monuments remain. Many local families fled to America during the Famine from nearby Achill Island where part of the fleeing Spanish Armada also floundered. The history, spectacular scenery, clean Blue Flag beaches and traditional Irish hospitality attracts visitors from all over the world, including many famous faces!
